JoDee Schumer - artists biography

JoDee Schumer the artist behind the sophisticated style of JoDeesigns Life Spirit Jewelry.

I personally design and create each piece starting with a central focal stone, bead, gem or item which has drawn me in and caught my attention.  The theme emerges asking me to add; more crystals to shine or hand painted silk to soften.  I clear my mind and let my hands wander over my pallet mixing and blending elements of gemstones, freshwater pearls, precious and semi- precious stones and metals with the softness of hand dyed silks. 

I am constantly searching for new and unique components and ideas.  As a result, my designs are truly one-of-a-kind,which is what I believe, makes the unique style of JoDeesigns Life Spirit jewelry.

Designing jewelry with spirit and beauty is a culmination of achieving technical skills honed as a fiber artist; teaching and writing about quilting, owning a boutique-alteration shop, and also designing and providing an eclectic line of clothing to the Chicago market.  Also, more formal training in stones, design, wire and metal-smithing helps execute all my designs fully.

Life is truly magical and in 2003, I took a giant leap of faith to follow my inner guidance.  My 3 children were grown and it was time for me to leave the beauty and nature of the north woods of Minnesota to learn and grow with my spirit on the tropical Big island of Hawaii.  I found my sense of wonder and spirit renewed as I incorporated the energy on the island into the designing of my jewelry.   
My passion is to engage others in their connection to the earth, its beauty, spirit and healing energy with each vibrant piece of jewelry I create.  It is my intention to honor the many gifts that this life has provided me.  What will come next is yet to be revealed.  My life is overflowing with gratitude and appreciation.
